HOT - [Zone 04N, Row 50 to 59] Robust trends of landscape dynamics in the permafrost region with temporally dense Landsat time-series stacks

The robust Theil-Sen regression algorithm was used to calculate trend parameters (slope, intercept, confidence intervals) on Landsat time-series stack in large parts of the permafrost region. The trend calculation was applied to different widely used multi-spectral indices (Landsat Tasseled Cap, NDVI, NDWI, NDMI), which serve as proxies for land surface conditions. Analysis was carried over the entire Landsat archive for the peak summer season (July, August) between years 1999 and 2014. The dataset is split up into 30x30 km tiles. Each tile contains 8 raster files, projected in UTM (the zones are file name indicated). There are three different data product types with following properties:

  • Trends

Trend components for each multi-spectral index with 4 bands. Band 1: Slope (linear change) per decade; Band 2: Intercept (interpolated value on July 1st 2014); Band 3: Lower Confidence Interval of Slope (alpha=0.05); Band 4: Upper Confidence Interval of Slope (alpha=0.05).

  • Raster metadata

Raster file with the Number of valid Observations (NObs), First Observation (FObs), and Last Observation (LObs) during the observation period.

  • Visual representation of Tasseled Cap slopes

A visual representation of the trend components of tasseled cap indices (as shown in the publication) is provided as a georeferenced PNG-image, which can be used in any image viewer, GIS or remote sensing software. The Red-Green-Blue-Composite is the visualisation of the trends of Tasseled Cap Brightness (TCBR) on Red, Tasseled Cap Greeness (TCGR) on Green and Tasseled Cap Wetness (TCWE) on Blue.
